In creating this series, author Kelly Starling Lyons wanted to make something that in her words “embodied Black Boy Joy.” The early reader market, and the children’s publishing market at large, continues to primarily feature white children, this offering from Lyons and illustrator, Nina Mata, helps fill an important need in the market and shines through on every page in both the text and illustration.

 

This series currently has four titles in the pipeline, with the first two titles TY’S TRAVELS: ALL ABOARD! And TY’S TRAVELS: ZIP, ZOOM! releasing on 9/1/2020. Book 3 will follow in Summer 2021, with Book 4 slated for Winter 2022.
